The Growing Years The Garden Club of Toronto has celebrated sixty years of building gardens for Toronto. Fourteen public gardens and thousands of trees, flowers and shrubs colour and scent the air of Toronto because club members have recognized the importance of green space. To celebrate these sixty years, the Garden Club has published The Growing Years by Helen Skinner. The book follows members' activities from the Club's formation in l946, through its major flower shows at the O'Keefe Centre, the Automotive Building, The Royal Ontario Museum, and Casa Loma to the present day annual Canada Blooms Flower and Garden Festival at the Metro Convention Centre. The Garden Club of Toronto is a Charitable Organization which has donated and implemented many city garden projects. These range from the Fragrant Garden for the Blind in l953, through the development of the Civic Garden Centre (now the Toronto Botanical Gardens (TBG), the gardens at Casa Loma, Spadina, Roy Thomson Hall, the Brickworks to a Children's Teaching Garden and the TBG Entrance Gardens. All the Club's project gardens are featured and illustrated in The Growing Years. The Growing Years, encompassing the events of our city for the last 60 years, is a 156 page hard cover publication, replete with photographs in both colour and black and white and numerous black and white drawings from the Garden Club of Toronto archives.
